Oxford University to najstarszy anglojęzyczny uniwersytet na świecie oraz pierwszy uniwersytet w Wielkiej Brytanii. Plasuje się on na pierwszych pozycjach brytyjskich rankingów szkół wyższych oraz w pierwszej 5 najlepszych uczelni na całym świecie. Oxford to centrum badawcze o randze światowej. Wśród absolwentów tej uczelni znajduje się 27 brytyjskich premierów, 30 światowych przywódców oraz 50 laureatów nagrody nobla.

Główną cechą uczelni jest unikatowy system nauczania, który charakteryzują tak zwane ‘tutoriale’ – cotygodniowe, indywidualne (lub odbywające się w niewielkich grupach) spotkania z opiekunem polegające na czytaniu literatury obowiązkowej i pisaniu esejów. Poza tutorialami, odbywają się również wykłady i seminaria. Uniwersytet składa się z 38 college’y, a każdy student zostaje przypisany do jednego z nich. Uczelnia pełna jest studentów z ponad 138 krajów z całego świata, z czego najwięcej przybywa z USA, Chin, Niemiec, Kanady oraz Indii. 95% absolwentów Oxfordu znajduje zatrudnienie w swojej profesji w ciągu 6 miesięcy po zakończeniu studiów.
